Commercial Carpet Removal in Star

Star sits about 20 miles west of Boise off Hwy 44, and it's the fastest-growing city in Idaho right now. New subdivisions are filling in along the river, and the State Street corridor downtown keeps adding retail space, offices, and medical buildings to keep up.

All that growth means old carpet coming out and new flooring going in. A retail buildout in a new strip center, a professional office refresh, a church or community space replacing worn carpet tile — commercial carpet removal in Star usually comes with a deadline attached, because the space has to reopen or a new tenant is moving in.

Why this isn't a job for the city's pickup programs

Star's curbside trash provider is Republic Services, and the city runs bulky-item pickup plus two unlimited clean-up weeks a year — spring clean-up the first full week of April, and winter clean-up the first full week after Christmas. Those programs are built around household volume: a couch, an appliance, a few bags at the curb.

They're not built for the square footage that comes out of a commercial space, and they don't run on a schedule that lines up with a business trying to turn a room around by a set date. A hauler can pull the carpet out on your timeline instead of waiting on a scheduled pickup week.

If a dumpster has to sit in the street

Some commercial jobs need a dumpster parked where there's no driveway or lot to put it — along State Street downtown, for instance. In the Ada County portion of Star, that requires an ACHD Temporary Use / Right-of-Way Permit for any container placed in the roadway or on a sidewalk.

Star's city limits also reach into Canyon County, and permit rules can differ block to block. Worth a quick call before move-in day if the container's going anywhere near a public street or sidewalk.

Where it actually ends up

Carpet, pad, and tack strip pulled from a commercial space in Star generally head to the Ada County Landfill at Hidden Hollow, or the Meridian Transfer Station — both off Seamans Gulch Road via Hwy 44/55.

What goes where matters, because the sites sort materials differently at the gate:

• Trash, construction and demolition debris, and clean wood are accepted
• Scrap metal — including the tack strip and metal trim that comes up with commercial carpet — is accepted, and large metal items go in free at the Meridian Transfer Station
• Tires and Freon-containing appliances are accepted for a posted fee
• Hazardous waste isn't accepted at the landfill
• Treated or painted wood gets kept out of the diversion stream
• Loads need to be tarped or strapped, and both sites post their own hours worth checking before you plan a drop-off

Separating carpet, pad, and metal tack strip before it ever leaves the building saves time at the gate and keeps a commercial job moving instead of getting picked apart at the scale.

That's the short version of what a commercial carpet removal job in Star actually involves — the city programs it won't qualify for, the permit question if a dumpster's going in the street, and where the material lands once it's out the door.
