How to Prep the Room

You don't have to do much before we show up. But a little prep makes the whole thing faster, and faster usually means cheaper.

Clear the furniture if you can

Empty rooms are the fastest to work in. If you can move the furniture out the night before, do it.

Can't move a piano or a heavy armoire? That's fine — just tell us when you book. We move furniture all the time. We'd just rather know in advance than find out when we walk in.

Take doors off if they drag

Interior doors are often hung to clear carpet. Once the carpet is gone there's a gap, and when you put new flooring in they might need to come off anyway. If a door already drags on the carpet, pull the hinge pins and set it aside.

Two things people forget

Floor vents. Pop the registers out and set them somewhere safe. They get bent when they're still in the floor during a tear-out.

What's under the carpet. If there's hardwood down there you're hoping to save, say so up front. Pulling carpet off hardwood you want to keep is a slower, more careful job than pulling it off a subfloor that's getting covered anyway.

Plan for dust

Old carpet holds a surprising amount of dust, and it all comes up at once. If anyone in the house is sensitive to it, plan to be out for a few hours. Opening a couple of windows helps a lot.

Where we'll park

We need to get a truck reasonably close to a door. If parking is tight — downtown, or a narrow driveway — mention it when you book so we bring the right vehicle.
