How long does it take?
A single bedroom is usually under an hour. A typical main floor runs two to four hours. Stairs and glue-down carpet take longer — sometimes a full day for a big basement glued to concrete.
Do you take the padding too?
Yes, unless you tell us not to. Padding comes up as a separate pass, and we pull the staples that hold it down so you are left with a clean subfloor.
There is hardwood under my carpet. Can you save it?
Usually, yes — but tell us before we start. Pulling carpet off hardwood you want to keep is slower, more careful work. We take the tack strips up by hand so we do not gouge the boards. Expect some staple holes and possibly tack strip marks near the walls; those are normal and typically disappear when the floor is refinished.
What about carpet glued to concrete?
We handle it, but it is a different job. The carpet comes up in pieces and the adhesive stays behind. If you are putting new flooring down, tell us what is going in — how much glue we need to scrape off depends on what comes next.
Do I need to move the furniture?
If you can, it helps and it keeps the cost down. If you cannot, we will move it. Just mention it when you book so we plan the time.
My carpet smells like pet urine. Is that a problem?
Not for us. It is worth knowing that urine usually soaks through the padding into the subfloor, so removing the carpet often will not remove the smell on its own. We can point out where the subfloor is stained so you can seal it before new flooring goes down.
Will you clean up?
Yes. We haul everything out, pull the tack strips and staples, and sweep the subfloor before we leave. You should not have anything to deal with afterward.
Can you come out same day?
Often, depending on the schedule. Call and ask — if we have a crew free we will get you on the books.
